Learn how to cook the vegan local dish "Sasamaki" and have Shojin-ryori for lunch
"Sasa-maki" is a traditional mochi rice cake that consists of rice soaked in ashes and then wrapped in bamboo.
[Tour Point]
◆Sasamaki is a traditional sweet of the Shonai region. This gelatinous yellow rice cake tastes like eggs, but it is entirely vegan.
Sasamaki consists of rice grains soaked in water mixed with tree ashes for a whole night. On the second day, the village women rinse the rice out and wrap it in bamboo leaves to give it its iconic triangular shape. After boiling it for almost an hour, the Sakamaki is ready to eat. It is best accompanied with ""kinako"" (roasted soybeans powder) and black sugar.
◆By taking part in this activity, you can not only learn a traditional vegan recipe, but also exchange with the adorable grandmothers of the villages around Mt. Yudono.
◆Have Shojin Ryori for lunch at Yudonosan Sanrojo.
